Anna’s Priorities
Expanding Our Housing Market
Anna is working to cut red tape so homeowners and builders can keep investing in Anchorage. She’s already taken major steps to increase housing: easier permitting, flexible rules, and more options to meet the needs of every generation. She’ll keep working to make it easier for people to live, build, and stay in Anchorage.
Accomplishments:
Led strategic effort to engage the community on our housing challenges, create and adopt a Housing Action Plan, which has been implemented over 2 years
Took major steps to increase building more housing: faster permitting, less red tape in code, more options to meet multi-generational housing needs:
Incentives for more housing near job centers and in the urban core
Reducing construction costs and time delays due to overly restrictive zoning
Reduce regulatory burden on homeowners and businesses revitalizing aging buildings
Legalizing “missing middle” and small housing
Support innovative housing options, construction methods, and creative solutions to build affordable housing
Increasing Public Safety
Anna is focused on keeping every neighborhood to be safe and healthy. She’s supported full police and fire staffing, starting up our Mobile Crisis Team and mental health first response, and closing nuisance properties like the Chelsea Inn. She’ll continue to work upstream to prevent crime and deterioration.
Accomplishments:
Addressing crime and public safety problems in neighborhoods, advocating to shut down problem buildings such as the Chelsea Inn and abandoned houses.
Passing a Balanced Budget
Anna works to ensure Anchorage spends public dollars responsibly. She supports funding core services like snow plowing, parks, and road maintenance—while making sure every tax dollar is used effectively and responsibly. She will continue to budget for the city we want and can afford.
Accomplishments:
Passed 3 balanced, responsible budgets that prioritize core services and support retaining our skilled public workforce.
Prioritize road maintenance and plowing, road safety measures, and fixing the infrastructure we have.
Championed the business case for continued federal and state investment for the Port.
Consistent advocate for more investment in public education at all levels, especially the State’s obligations.
Continued public engagement and creating dialogue about Anchorage’s budget challenges and scenarios to choose for the future.
Supporting Local Business & Economic Opportunity
Strong local businesses create jobs, strengthen neighborhoods, and keep Anchorage’s economy resilient. Supporting entrepreneurs, nonprofits, and working families helps our whole community thrive.
Accomplishments:
Supported growth opportunities for small food vendors by cutting unnecessary red tape and simplifying local processes
Implemented pro-industry and pro-health updates to alcohol licensing and created a local tax break for nonprofit charity events
Supported adoption of an electronic bidding system to improve access and transparency for contractors and grant applicants
Helped establish the ACCEE Fund Board and direct investments to stabilize child care providers and expand early education access
Addressing Homelessness
Anna helped expand year-round shelter and coordinate housing, outreach, and mental health services so people get the help they need. She’ll continue to work on long-term solutions that balance compassion with accountability.
Accomplishments:
Supported multiple strategies to prevent and mitigate wildfire threats.
Ensured full funding to the Mobile Crisis Team and mental health first response.
Collaborated with two administrations to turn homeless crisis response into a coordinated, effective effort, while continuing to focus on prevention.
Getting Results for Our District
From repaving 100th Avenue and Forest Park Drive to improving Fish Creek Trail and local parks, Anna champions local projects that make our neighborhoods safer, stronger, and great places to call home. Anna will continue to work hard for West Anchorage!
Accomplishments:
Supported Fish Creek Trail Connection project while balancing concerns of adjacent neighbors
Champion funding for important local projects like Forest Park Drive, re-paving 100th Ave, and park improvements from the Coastal Trail to Sand Lake.
Having More Fun in Anchorage
From big events to backyard gatherings with friends. We need to bring neighbors back together in Anchorage, and reconnect our community.
Accomplishments:
Led multiple efforts to celebrate the Municipality of Anchorage’s 50th Anniversary (“Munification”) as an opportunity to learn from the past while looking to the future
Consistent supporter and community volunteer to improve Anchorage’s parks and trails
Supporter of celebrating Anchorage’s many cultures and learning from our neighbors through community events, arts and culture, and neighbor meet-ups
